Hello team of auto professionals.
Unfortunately I have an issue with my E46 with manual transmission.
It has the S5D320Z transmission and the M54B30 Engine.
The last 7 digits: JT71475
I have a problem with my vehicle. The issue that I have is that the 5th gear pops back to neutral when I let off the accelerator pedal.
To have some background. The transmission used to work great, I changed the oil and put the OEM bmw fluid. But I had (and still have the 5th gear pin problem) In which when I put the car in neutral it tends to stays in the 5th gear position.
I was going to put the kit that bmw sells to fix that problem and call it a day. But then, disaster.
I did a suspension refresh, and I changed the control arms, bushings and changed the oil pan gasket, after I put the subframe in position and finished working on the car. The gear problem started to appear, I put the gear and when I decelerate with the car in 5th gear it pops back to the neutral position.
Long time ago I refreshed the gearshift bushings, and changed the gear oil, and while I waited for the shift pins from bmw I used the car, and it worked just fine.
About a week ago I bought two liters of bmw transmission oil and proceeded to change the oil. And for my disgust I found metal flakes in silver and cooper color, so I got very worried that my transmission from the inside is dying.
The symptoms that I have is that when I get about 70km/h and I put in fifth gear the gearshift vibrates a lot. And when I decelerate it pops back to neutral position.
This problem does not happen with 1,2,3,4 th gears. Only with fifth.
I also checked the driveshaft center bearing and it was okay, and the flex disk I replaced it about a year ago.
I don’t feel like the engine mounts/transmission mounts were bad, I haven't replaced it but I don't see any movement when I lifted the car and checked for harshness.
I attached two videos, so you can provide me ideas from where to look.
Thanks for your time
