Insurance - Private Settlement - Question

My mum was involved in a crash couple of months ago. Her Mercedes W202 hit back of a Ford Galaxy.
Galaxy only needed a new rear bumper, but Merc needed to replace most of front end. angry

The driver of the Galaxy suggested private settlement as his car wasn't badly damaged, and he said he suffered no injury so we went down that route. handshake

Car went to his chosen preferred body shop who I believe inflated quote of repair by approx. £100, but to end headache we agreed to this as full and final settlement of any aspects of any claims arising from the incident on without prejudice basis (signed by both sides that cash has been paid on this agreement). handshake

I found another W202 for parts pcidea and we fixed my Mum's car ourselves mechanic

Today my Mum gets letter from her insurance company enquiring about accident she was in. Letter mentions her car, reg, location of accident and date, but sections for third party name/driver/make+model/reg are all listed as Unknown. drunk

I spoke to the third party briefly on the phone who said he had not reported to his insurance, but he didn't want to stay long on phone. Part of me had the feeling it was because he is trying to double claim now against insurance middlefinger but he is a cab driver, so maybe he was busy driving drive I cannot be certain.

I am struggling to find information on whether someone can claim again from insurance after making a private settlement. pcidea All I can find is various online discussions where people say private settlement is not valid but none of these discussions actually give any good reason why, so I thought I would ask if anyone on AP had this kind of experience? call

The only other thing I can think of, all details for 3rd party are blank.
Is it possible recovery (AA) or maybe some camera catch this and report to insurance? doh

Either way, I was thinking 2 plans: idea

1: Send private settlement form to insurance & inform there is no claim outstanding, & liability cannot be determined for that incident (as per agreement). mail

2: Ask for further details about the incident (not just date/place) in order to find out more about the allegation. wondering

I am not an insurance expert, so I thought I would call on the help of anyone that may be able to advise me bow
