With some help from DaveF I now have the MG Rover RDS 5.06 running natively in Win7 and no need for DVD drives. Have not got an MG or Rover here to test out on but it connects to my T4 Mobile+ and seems to be fine.
Windows 7 Pro 32-bit, not virtual machine, a proper native installation...
1st of all, install the RDS 5.06 like you normally would. Select the T4 Lite install, this is to work with the T4 Mobile+ and gives the full program install.
Upon rebooting you will be faced with a blank screen, Ctrl-Shift-Esc to get the Task Manager, then File=>Run, and regedit
You need to change
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Shell=T4menu.exe, replacing that with Shell=Explorer.exe
Then go to C:/RDS/rds.ini, edit it to change the shutdown T4menu option to "no" this way when you exit the T4 Menu, it does not shutdown the PC.
So now you have an "almost" normal functioning Windows again, it's good enough for me to work with anyhow.
Now with MG Rover RDS 5.06 it's not like the Land Rover RDS 7.0 where the program can mount the various calibration CD's for you, normally it expects you to put in the different CD each time (and have the CD drive named Z: ). This is problem if your laptop doesn't have a CD drive... mine does but only in the docking station, and carrying discs around is so 1990's...
So how to mount these iso files like regular discs?
"Virtual Clone Drive" google it... the actual program to install is SetupVirtualCloneDrive5500.exe
With this you can set a virtual drive, call it Z: and choose which iso you want to mount or unmount. I tried a few of these type of programs but none of them worked, the settings you choose are critical...
Here screenshots how it works. (I changed the icon of the shortcut on the desktop because the sheep looks stupid
)

Here you see the virtual drive Z:, already with an iso mounted

To mount a new iso, right click and select mount

Just keep your iso's in a convenient place, and choose which one you need when...
Everything else is as normal with the T4 so far as I can tell. You have to mess with the screen resolution to get the buttons in the right places...

Install files are available from DaveF or if you need PM me and I'll see how to get them to you, it might be easier to use VM's but I'm not that kind of guy...
