Windows 7 Problems & Qwerks

Hi guys.

I mentioned to f33nix last night after a PM that I had put back Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 32bit after the qwerk I had with Vista/Win7 Sidebar weather gadget "Service not available".

He said to post any problems in here. I said I don't want to burden you guys with Windows 7 stupid problems I will see what I can sort out via Google.

Now initially there are a few things I don't like after using all versions of Windows since it was made.

1) Control Panel can always be set to Classic View. On Win7 its not straight forward you have to select Viewed by: Large or Small icons.

2) Having used every version of Windows I like the Classic Start Menu which they say has been removed on Win7. After Googling I did find Classic Shell its free and works a treat. Oh if you what this then download the latest version in exe format as the zip only contains 2 ini files and 2 dll file and an rtf file which tells you sweet FA. The other reason I like the Classic Start Menu is you don't see the shortcut of everything you've click on from the Start button which you have to keep on unpinned each item from the list.

3) I like to have Start button Programs showing what I want to see. On previous Windows version you just right click on the Start button and explorer All Users. On Win7 you have to right click on the word Programs to access this or open C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and edit folders and shortcuts.

4) Now for many years I've had my desktop WinXP 2002 SP3 connected to my Vista laptop for exchanging files back a forth. Both are set to WORKGROUP now I have Win7 I can access WinXP but WinXP won't access my laptop. Now on Win7 I did the same as I did on Vista I set every folder I wanted to share with an additional Guest user and set it to read/write. I still couldn't access files from WinXP. Win7 has a Share with option I also set each folder with Share with Homegroup (read/write) but I still can't access any files.

On WinXP I have a shortcut on the desktop Fujitsu-AMILO which is the laptop name which worked before but when I double click now it says:

Quote:\\Fujitsu-amilo is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the Administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Logon failure: user acount restriction. Possible reason are blank passwords not allowed, login hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has been enforced.

There is no password set on either system. I can do a search for computers on WinXP and Fujitsu-AMILO shows up but it shows the same message when I double click it.

You might say you have to get used to these newer systems. No you don't you have a system that suits your needs. Don't get drawn in by M$ sales [Image: BS.gif] newer is better, they are selling these systems.

So the only problem I have at the moment though I'm sure I'll find alot more in time is I can't access folders or files on my laptop from WinXP, any suggestions?
