Walnut Shell Blasters

There seems to be a lot of intake manifold soot accumulation or "coking" problems associated with the petrol direct injected motors BMW and VW/Audi for sure, I've heard complaints across all DI brands. In the US, recommended procedures are to open up the manifold and blast away the deposits with specific sized granules of walnut shells. What are you all buying, that you like to blast these manifolds clean?
Good ones, bad ones, what ever you actually think is doing a good cleaning, with the least amount of trouble.
I have been told the BMW "factory recommended" one is a good choice.
I am going to see it next week, I'll add that detail to this post later.
(If you sprechen sie deutsch it's good as the manual is in German)
The Audi dealers have been sucking some BG Aerosol product into the intakes of their new cars, smells really bad and the mechanics did NOT sound convinced it was doing anything worthwhile.
